Desk 04 — Domicile & Renewals Desk
The paperwork after the paperwork.
Most filing businesses disappear after the plate ships. The money and the risk both live in year two: a Montana LLC that misses its 15 April annual report imperils the registration it holds; a South Dakota registration renews annually; a domicile that isn't maintained stops being a domicile. This desk is the subscription that keeps every filing we've touched current — and the honest route into (and out of) Montana.

Ownership Cover — $99/year
- Annual-report and renewal filing handled for every vehicle/entity we manage for you (government fees at cost, itemised).
- Document vault: your titles, registrations, disclosures, and filing receipts, organised and retrievable.
- Replacement-document help and add-a-vehicle processing at written per-vehicle quotes.
- An annual law-change alert for your garaging state: when your state changes the rules for your route (they are changing — see below), you hear it from us, with the filing fix if one exists.
- Reminders at 60/30/7 days for anything that can lapse. Lapses are how registrations die; we treat the calendar as part of the product.
$99/year. Government renewal fees at cost, itemised.
Genuine full-time travellers: South Dakota domicile
If you truly live on the road — no fixed garaging state — South Dakota deliberately accommodates you: a Residency Affidavit supported by a lodging receipt and a mail-forwarding (PMB) address, a driver's licence after a one-night stay, and vehicle registration handled by mail or by an agent under power of attorney. We arrange this through established domicile/mail-forwarding partners (published partner pricing in the market runs $414–$599 for the first year, then $204–$360/year + $25 per vehicle) instead of pretending we're a South Dakota mail company.
Two honest disclosures: (1) since 2025, South Dakota requires 30 consecutive days in a fixed dwelling to vote in state/local elections — a licence and registration are not a state ballot; (2) “full-time traveller” is a fact test, not a form — if you actually garage the vehicle at a home in another state, that state's rules apply, and our screen will say so.
Montana, behind the gate
Montana LLC registration is lawful in Montana and still right for real profiles: vehicles genuinely garaged or stored in Montana, businesses with a real Montana nexus, collectors whose vehicles live in Montana, and true full-time travellers. It is filed through a Montana registered agent in the agent's county; state costs include the $35 LLC filing, ~$12 title, and registration from $217/year (newer light vehicles) down to $28, permanent plates at 11+ years ($87.50 one-time), permanent motorcycle/quadricycle registration ($53.25 street / $114.50 street + off-highway), and a +$825/year luxury surcharge on vehicles with MSRP over $150,000 under 11 years old.
It is not a tax product. If your vehicle will live in a state with a use tax and a resident-registration deadline, that state will very likely require its own registration and tax no matter whose name is on a Montana title — and several states now enforce exactly that, with personal liability for LLC members (California's SB 1406, effective 2026), insurance-data matching (Utah's SB 52 sweep flagged ~80,000 vehicles), doubled penalties (Georgia HB 551, from 1 January 2026), and criminal charges in California and Tennessee cases. That is why Montana intakes start with the six questions and a signed disclosure. If the screen says your profile is exposed, we decline or refer you to a tax professional — before payment, not after.
Core Montana prices (our service fee; government fees at cost, itemised): Powersports $749 · Cars/RVs $949 · White Glove $1,499 · Ownership Cover $99/yr. Financed vehicles usually route to South Dakota instead (4% excise tax + $100 non-resident title fee + $10 title, per the county's published schedule; the lienholder stays on the title) — the screen tells you which route your facts fit, and why.
